An unidentified male skier was killed Monday and another man injured when they skied into rocky terrain at Alta Ski Resort.

The two men were skiing in the East Greely area in the upper portion of the resort when they were injured. "Apparently they skied into a steep rocky area and one of them did die," said Russ Harmer, assistant general manager of Alta. Both were taken to LDS Hospital by Life Flight helicopter. There, one of the men was pronounced dead. The other man suffered leg and chest injuries. Hospital officials were unable to identify the victims at press time.

Harmer said no one saw the two men fall, but other skiers located them sometime after the accident and reported the incident to the ski patrol.

Harmer said he did not know the names of the victims and would only say that they were visiting from another country. The area they were skiing in is identified in trail maps as an advanced run for experts, he said.
