Israeli warplanes raided a Palestinian guerrilla base Tuesday, wounding 15 people as a Lebanese army force clashed with a patrol of the Israeli-backed South Lebanon army militia in southern Lebanon.

Palestinian sources said two Israeli warplanes rocketed the camp of Ain El Helweh and a nearby base of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine General Command on the southeastern outskirts of the port city of Sidon, 24 miles south of Beirut.Victims included a field commander of the PFLP-GC of Ahmed Jibril who remained anonymous. Sources said seven other guerrillas were wounded.

An Israeli army spokesman confirmed that the aircraft attacked a terrorist command post southeast of Sidon. The target was hit and all planes returned safely to base, he said.

Debris also hit and set afire a number of cars, the witnesses said.
