"Mixed Grill," an evening of dance with choreographies by Lisa Arbon and Patricia Bice, will take place at BYU on Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23 at 7:30 each evening. It's at the Wilkinson Center Memorial Lounge, and tickets are $4, or $3 for students, available at the door.
Arbon and Bice did graduate work together at UCLA, and every year they combine their talents to present a dance program together - last year in Los Angeles, this year in Provo. To a program of jazz and modern numbers, Bice will contribute "Arrangement for Four," featuring herself and dancers from the L.A. area. Arbon has programmed several short pieces, with the BYU Cougarettes and Contemporary Jazz Theatre participating, culminating in the finale, "Higher Road," to music of Sam Cardon's Grammy-winning "Impulse" album.
Bice began dance training in Kansas City, then took a bachelor's degree from SUNY-Purchase. After studying and performing in Los Angeles, she taught ballet, jazz and modern dance at Missouri-K.C., before settling permanently on the West Coast.
Arbon, a former member of BYU's Dancer's Company, graduated from BYU in dance and speech, then studied and danced in Los Angeles. She has choreographed commercially for the Osmond 4th of July "Stadium of Fire," for Sam Cardon, and for the internationally televised "Spirit of Rock and Roll" mini-series. At present she is a coordinator of student life at BYU, and directs the BYU Cheer Squad.
