BARNES and KATHARINE COLES will read from their poems at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at 240 S. Main. Coles is a professor at Westminster College; Barnes, author of "Prairie Piano Poems," is the literary arts director for the Utah Arts Council. The two poets have read together often, since their work shows such diverse range, voice and experience.

- THE ORIGINAL manuscripts to all major literary works by South African author Alan Paton will be auctioned by Sotheby's in New York. The June 3 sale will include the working manuscripts of 11 books, including his best seller, "Cry, the Beloved Country." They were consigned by his widow, Anne Paton. - Associated Press

- WILLIAM HEINESEN, whose poetry and writing chronicled life on the remote Faeroe Islands, died last week in his native port city of Torshavn, Denmark. He was 91. Heinesen, who published his first volume of verse, Arctic Elegies, in 1921, was considered to be one of the greatest Danish-language storytellers. - Associated Press
