Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Catherine Gwennie Matheson Miller, 84, passed away March 13, 1991, in her Salt Lake City home of cancer.
She was born December 8, 1906, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Arthur and Gwennie Starley Matheson. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she was an excellent student and athlete. She married George Cottam Miller, Sr., on August 11, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois; soleminzed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple later that month. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1990. After their marriage they lived in Detroit, and later in Chicago, where they worked for Roll-Away Bed Co. They moved to Beaver, Utah where her husband started a law practice. While there she was active in clubs, community service and substitute teaching. Her LDS church service included music, relief society and as a leader in youth activity where she received her Golden Gleaner Award. They moved to Salt Lake in 1951 where she continued her church service including 17 years as a temple worker.Survived by three sons, Dr. William Albert Miller, wife Elretta, Lehi; George Cottam Miller, Jr., wife Dolores, Aberdeen, Washington; Dr. David Keith Miller, wife Linda, Sandy; one daughter, Gwennie Miller White, husband Wendell, formerly of Dugway; 29 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William John Matheson, Chicago, Illinois; and Milan E. Matheson, wife Francis, Skokie, Illinois; and one sister, Betty M. Harris, husband Dr. James R., Payson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16th, 2 p.m., Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Friday, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, one hour prior to service. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
