Law enforcement officers in several agencies say they are stepping up efforts to capture a man they believe has robbed as many as 14 businesses this year.

The same man may have robbed two of those businesses Thursday and Friday - a grocery store and a pizza parlor. The suspect disguises himself with a white ski mask, dark ski goggles and often wears a green army-type jacket.About 9 p.m. Thursday, a man robbed Ambassador Pizza, 3638 S. Highland Drive in Holladay. About eight hours later, a man entered Smith's Food King, 2132 S. 900 East, wearing the same basic clothing. Salt Lake police said he pulled out a semiautomatic gun and demanded money.

The clerk, who was performing accounting duties on the cash register, told the suspect no money was available because the machine was adding the day's receipts. The man then ran to the other side of the store, removed a cash drawer from another cash register and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

The robber is a man, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. Anyone with any information about the suspect is asked to contact Sgt. Mike Roberts or Detective Kyle Jones with the Salt Lake Police Department, 799-3000.

Roberts said the man has had three productive robberies, taking between $3,000 and $5,000. The robber took mostly small amounts of cash in the other robberies, he said.

The first robbery occurred Jan. 4 at a sewing machine store at 4742 S. 900 East. On Jan. 9, a man robbed a tanning salon at 3685 S. 900 East. The next day a man robbed a bank at 3425 E. 7800 South. On Feb. 7 police believe the man hit the Utah Credit Union at 6935 S. 900 East. Police believe he is also connected with a Feb. 26 robbery at a tanning salon at 881 E. 9400 South and a Holiday Oil station at 8002 S. 700 East.
