Phone service was restored Thursday for several east Salt Lake County residents, some of whom were without phones for as long as 48 hours.
Construction workers accidentally drilled through two large telephone cables Tuesday in the area of Whitmore Library, 2197 E. 7000 South. Each of the cables contain 1,800 phone lines."We were faced with re-splicing those one by one," said U.S. WEST spokesperson Laura Scholl.
Little by little phone service was restored to residents and businesses in the area. Crews were working on the problem 24 hours a day until all service was restored.
Patrons were unable to phone libraries in the Salt Lake County library system because the Whitmore Library apparently serves as the main station where calls to other libraries are routed.
