It's the last regular-season meet of 1991 for both the Cougars and Utes tonight at 7 in the Smith Fieldhouse when No. 1-ranked Utah visits eighth-ranked-and-climbing BYU.

While Utah has led the nation all season, Coach Greg Marsden says he'd like one more high away-meet score to elevate the Utes' Regional Qualifying Score a little more toward seeding in the postseason. Both clubs still have the first-ever Western Athletic Conference meet March 23 at Albuquerque to attend and improve their RQSs, but Marsden says, "I doubt we'll score real high at the WAC. It falls during finals, and we typically don't have organized practices during finals week."

The Utes will also be out to regain their balance on the beam, which continued to be a problem for the fourth straight meet last week in their 194.65-193.25 win over No. 2 Georgia. Utah had two falls and a slight problem on one mount, although freshman Jenny Donaldson scored 9.85, her career high.

BYU also met Georgia in the past week, losing 191.75-190.5 in its fourth meet in nine days. Tonight's meet will be the Cougars' fifth meet in two weeks - all against top-six opponents. They've risen to the challenge with four scores above 190 and consecutive school records of 191.2 and 194.05 in back-to-back meets with Utah State.

Tonight will be the final home meet for BYU's best career gymnast, Marianne Squires, who ranks ninth nationally, and for fellow senior Heidi Radoff. Junior Korie Jackman holds the school all-around record of 39.1.

Utah is led by Missy Marlowe, still the top-ranked all-arounder in the country with a 39.32 RQS. Shelly Schaerrer is third nationally at 39.05, and Kristen Kenoyer ranks fourth at 39.01.
