Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, is heading for Kuwait this weekend along with four dozen other members of Congress.
Owens, a member of both the House Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees, was asked by Majority Leader Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., to join a House delegation, which will also visit Saudi Arabia and Israel.About 30 House members, from both parties, are expected to go on the trip including Gephardt and Minority Leader Robert Michel, R-Ill.
The Senate is also sending a separate delegation of 17 members who will go to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The delegations are expected to visit American troops and talk with government officials about the post-war needs of the region.
Owens is on a Foreign Affairs subcommittee that oversees the Middle East, and he has traveled there extensively in recent years. He has also met with all most heads of state in the region, and most of their top ministers.
