The American heritage department at Brigham Young University has discovered a different way to help the struggling countries in Eastern Europe get on their feet.

The department is sponsoring "The Bucharest Book Bash," a sock-hop benefit Saturday, March 16, in the Memorial Lounge of BYU's Wilkinson Center from 8 p.m. to midnight. The catch is that, to be admitted to the dance, people must bring one or more textbooks or other literature books written in English and published within the past 10 years.

These books will ultimately be sent to Bucharest, Romania, to further the country's educational pursuits and to give the people there a chance to obtain knowledge and skills that will boost their ability to create a new economic society.

A booth at the "Bash" will also give those who attend the opportunity to sign up to assist other programs in the Utah County area designed to help Romania and other countries overcome economic difficulties.
