The family of a woman killed last year while working at the Utah State Hospital has filed a wrongful death suit in 4th District Court against the state.

Betty June Done was stabbed on April 23, 1990, by Don Lyons, a hospital patient, while working in the "canteen" area of the hospital's cafeteria. She died seven hours later at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. In a suit filed Feb. 19 by Robert Riding, a representative of Done's estate, the family is seeking special and general damages, interest and court costs.

The suit claims Lyons has a violent history and hospital personnel had the duty to supervise and control his behavior. The suit claims the hospital staff was negligent in allowing Lyons to work in an area where knives and other dangerous items were easily accessible.
