An F-16 from Hill Air Force Base crashed Wednesday in Saudi Arabia, but the pilot safely ejected, Hill officials said.
Capt. Lenny Dick, age and hometown unknown, was flying a training mission when the F-16 crashed somewhere along the Arabian peninsula about 10:30 a.m. Saudi time, said Tech. Sgt. George Bedsaul of the 388th Public Affairs office.Dick ejected safely and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. "Anytime that someone ejects, they go for a medical evaluation," Bedsaul said.
The F-16 belongs to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base. Dick is a member of the base's 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron.
A board of officers will investigate the cause of the accident.
