Utah high school students can participate in the fifth annual essay contest to support humane use of animals in medical research.

The topic is "The Miracle of the Transplant" and should focus on how the human-animal team has brought about medical progress. Students in public, private and parochial schools are eligible to enter the contests sponsored by Committee for Animals in Research and Education in Utah.Three finalists will be chosen, and the first-place winner will receive a $500 cash award, while second- and third-place winners will receive $100 each.

Entries should be no longer than 750 words and must be postmarked by April 5. A cover sheet, listing the student's name, address, telephone number and school, should be sent along with the essay to the CARE-Utah Writing Competition, 661 S. 200 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.
