A request from Salt Lake County commissioners to change the membership of the Business-Government Alliance has been approved by the board of governors of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Currently, the six BGA members from the county are the three commissioners and three department heads, but the resolution adopted by the board of governors allows the commissioners to replace the department heads with other elected county officials. In presenting the resolution to the board, Patricia Simmons, government affairs director for the chamber, said the BGA was created in 1983 to formally involve the business community, represented by the chamber, in assisting the county in identifying areas of operation and service delivery where greater efficiency and cost savings could be realized.

The BGA has 13 members, seven of which are nominated by the chamber and six from the county.
