Our kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary Ann (Mae) Shurtz Larsen Hatch Smith, age 103, died March 5, 1991 in Richfield, Utah.

Born June 6, 1887 in Escalante, Utah, a daughter of William and Adell Williams Shurtz. She married LeRoy Larsen, June 6, 1906 in Torrey, Utah; marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He died March 10, 1929. She married Edward Hatch, Nov. 1, 1938, in Richfield, Utah; he died March 20, 1952. She married Eugene Smith, July 16, 1956, in Richfield, Utah; he died August 4, 1975. Mrs. Smith worked with her mother, as a cook for miners while she was a child. During most of her adult life, she worked with her family in farming. She and her husband, Ed Hatch, lived for two years at Fish Lake, as caretakers and weather recorders during the winter months, and as cook and maintenance workers during the summer. She was an active member of the LDS church, working in various auxiliary organizations. With her husband, Eugene Smith, they spent most winters in Arizona and toured Mexico at least one month a year.Survived by two children, Wilma Brian, Loa; William Hans Larsen, Bozeman, Montana; 31 grandchildren, 121 great-grandchildren and 73 great great-grandchildren; one great great great-grandson; stepchildren, Mrs. Mitchell (Madge) Huntsman; Ken Smith, both Provo; Jay C. Smith, Mesa, Arizona; Deama Bowles, Fredonia, Arizona; Vesta Hartley, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Mike (Reone) Zelle, Sacramento, California. Preceded in death by two children, Lloyd Larsen and Rosella L. Taylor, also one grandchild.

Funeral services, Saturday March 9, 1 p.m. in the Loa, Utah LDS Stake Tabernacle. Friends may call for viewing Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Springer-Turner Funeral Home, in Richfield and Saturday morning at the Tabernacle in Loa 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial, Bicknell Cemetery.
