Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Tuesday the time is not ripe for an international Middle East peace conference.

"No, not at the present time," Mubarak told reporters when asked whether now that the gulf war has ended it was time to convene such a conference to settle the 43-year-old Arab-Israeli conflict.Mubarak said confidence-building measures between Israel and its Arab neighbors were needed first in addition to sufficient preparation for such a conference.
