Author Alane Ferguson, members of Literacy Volunteers of America, West Valley Mayor Brent Anderson and Congressman Wayne Owens will be among participants at a read-a-thon from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16.

The activity at Westvale Presbyterian Church, 3610 S. 4400 West, is part of a right-to-read project sponsored by the Utah Girl Scout Council.The council's Cadette Troop 885 has invited politicians, authors, members of the Utah Jazz and the Golden Eagles to a gathering aimed at combatting illiteracy.

Ferguson, who is recipient of the Edgar Allan Poe award for the best young adult mystery, will present a workshop at 3 p.m.
