A Clearfield man charged with sodomy and sexual abuse of a child pleaded no contest to a reduced felony charge Wednesday in 2nd District Court shortly before his trial began.

Curtis G. Kelly, 24, 503 Barlow St., was charged with abusing a 4-year-old girl between August 1987 and January of this year, according to court documents filed by the Kaysville Police.Kelly entered a no contest plea to a single charge of attempted sexual abuse of a child, a third-degree felony, and Judge Douglas L Cornaby scheduled sentencing for Sept. 26. The charge carries a prison term of zero to five years.

He was originally charged with sodomy upon a child, a first-degree felony that carries a five-year-to-life prison term and minimum mandatory term of five, 10, or 15 years and sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony with a one-to-15-year prison term.
