The Salt Lake Trappers' chances for a fourth straight Pioneer League title were hurt considerably Tuesday night, as the Trappers dropped a 3-2 game to the Pocatello Giants while Southern Division leader Butte was defeating Idaho Falls, 8-5.

The Trappers now trail Butte by three games with just six games to play. And since the two teams don't face each other, Salt Lake needs other teams to knock off the Copper Kings at least three times in the remaining six games.Just like Monday night, the Trappers squandered a lead. They went up 2-0 in the second inning on a run-scoring double by Jeff Allison followed by a single by Marty Peralta that scored Allison.

Pocatello scored its three runs in the sixth, getting the winning run as the result of a throwing error.

The two teams conclude their two-game series Wednesday night. After that the Trappers return home for their final five games, beginning with a two-game series Thursday against Idaho Falls.
