Seattle Mariners outfielder Ken Griffey Sr. was injured in a car accident and will be sidelined indefinitely with neck and lower back injuries, team officials said Sunday.

Griffey was on his way to take his physical examination for the team Saturday afternoon when he stopped to yield to an emergency vehicle and his car was rear-ended by a pickup truck, said Dr. Larry Pedegana, the club's orthopedic surgeon.Griffey 40, who has had intermittent back problems the last few years, was told to take medication, undergo physical therapy and rest for three to four days, the surgeon added.
