Office workers in the United States and Canada apparently are increasingly satisfied with their jobs and expect the quality of work life to improve in the next decade, according to a recent survey.

The poll, conducted by Louis Harris for Steelcase Inc., shows more workers indicating satisfaction with their jobs this year than in a 1987 survey. But perception gaps remained between how satisfied office workers are and how satisfied top executives think they are. Age and income appeared to have some impact on how satisfied workers are, as more workers in high age and income brackets reported greater job satisfaction.
