The community of West Point has been selected by the Davis County Sheriff's Office to participate in an experimental bicycle registration program to control bike theft.

The registration program is designed to provide information to police in recovering and identifying stolen bicycles, according to Capt. K.D. Simpson.During September, a series of bicycle rodeos will be held at West Point Elementary School. Bicycle safety instruction, a skills course, and display booths offering information will be set up.

Residents can register their bicycles, giving the sheriff's office their name, address, type of bike and serial number. The information will be entered in the department's computer.
