The Utah National Parks Council of the Boy Scouts of America has presented eight young men with special Scouting awards and scholarships.
Jeffrey Lloyd Johnson, a Bear Cub Scout from Pack 437 of the Utah Lake District in Orem, has been named Cub of the Year. Jeffrey represented the Utah Lake District in the Council Cub Scout Olympics. He is an excellent student at Westmore Elementary School and won first place in art division in the city PTA Reflections program.Wade Allan, a Bobcat Cub Scout in Pack 3731 in the Provo Cascade District, was awarded the Medal of Merit and Medal of Merit Certificate for saving a friend's life while swimming with a school class in the Provo High School pool.
Bryce Reinhold, an Explorer and Eagle Scout from American Fork in the Alpine District; Aaron Brady, an Explorer and Life Scout from Vernal in the Uintah District; and Jayson Evans, a Life Scout from Alpine, Alpine District, saved the life of a boy caught in the waves at Fleming Beach, Maui, Hawaii, Oct. 14, 1987. For their heroic efforts they received the Honor Medal and Honor Medal Certificate.
David K. Krzymowski, an Eagle Scout from Orem, Squaw Peak District, who is attending Brigham Young University majoring in Latin with plans to study medicine, has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the national Eagle Scout Scholarship Committee. Out of 2,000 scholarship applicants, 48 were awarded.
Caleb Cottam, from Pack 357 in Toquerville, Virgin River District, was awarded a $25 gift certificate Honor Award in the 1987 Eastman Kodak Company Photo Scholarship Awards Program.
Daniel Witte, a Varsity Scout from Pleasant Grove, Timpanogos District, won the 1987-88 Bronze Eagle Trophy presented by the Utah Society of Sons of the American Revolution. He earned 112 out of 119 merit badges and four palms. He has submitted a proposal for establishment of a new merit badge in karate, a skill in which he excels. In application for the SAR award, Daniel submitted a four-generation ancestor chart and wrote an essay on Maj. Gen. Nathaniel Grene, who served the patriot cause during the American Revolution and was know as the "Fighting Quaker."
