A Taylorsville man who was accused of attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl in her Taylorsville apartment was arrested Monday.

The victim told deputy sheriffs she was sleeping in an apartment near 5600 South and 1500 West when the suspect knocked on her door about 1:45 a.m. He knocked for 15 minutes before she finally agreed to let him in and use the telephone. She said she thought it was OK to let him in because he is her step-mother's brother. After he made the phone call, she asked him to leave. She said the man then grabbed her, sexually abused her and then put his hands around her throat when she started screaming, a sheriff's report stated.

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old man later that evening at his nearby apartment and booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of forcible sexual abuse.
