The military junta that seized power in a lightning coup d'etat has sent an interim constitution to King Bhumibol Adulyadej for approval as the first step in a return to a civilian government.

"We have already sent the interim constitution up (to the king). Once it is approved, we will propose the names of the new government leaders," said Gen. Suchinda, deputy leader of Saturday's military takeover.Suchinda said the government would be announced either this week or next and that the new prime minister would be a civilian.
