The man convicted of robbing the Smith's Food and Drug on Freedom Boulevard the day after Thanksgiving will be spending the next few years in the Utah State Prison.

William Joseph Smith, 33, Sandy, was found guilty of first-degree robbery by a 4th District jury in January. Friday, Judge George E. Ballif sentenced Smith to five years to life in the Utah State Prison. Smith also must pay restitution. Store employees testified at the trial that Smith made off with more than $3,000.
