Alpine School District is considering adopting a policy that would allow the district to hire temporary employees to replace district employees called to the Persian Gulf.

The policy allows the district to hire employees on a week-to-week basis and says the district or employee can terminate employment after giving a seven-day notice. It says no temporary employee shall expect to have continued employment.Superintendent Steven Baugh said the policy will provide the district with coverage for positions left vacant by National Guard call-ups and will protect the jobs of those called to duty. Seven Alpine teachers and one bus driver were called to duty by the National Guard.

Board members discussed the policy during February's business meeting and are expected to take action on the policy during March's business meeting.
