A member of the Sevier School District Board of Education has resigned at a meeting that was to air complaints by his constituents about his infrequent attendance at meetings.
But Ross Marshall said he resigned because he is moving to Salt Lake City. The board is seeking applicants to replace him and is expected to fill the vacancy at a meeting March 14. Marshall was elected from Precinct 5, which includes Redmond, Salina and Koosharem. Applicants must reside in one of those areas.
Residents of the precinct complained to the board about Marshall's lack of attendance at meetings and had been promised the problem would be resolved. Board members didn't have to act on the complaints, however. They accepted the resignation and approved sending a letter of appreciation to Marshall for his services.
Marshall was beginning his third year of a second term on the board, having served as president in 1988 and vice president in 1989. He is a former principal at North Sevier High School in Salina.
Officials said applications and resumes of applicants must be filed with the school district office in Richfield by noon March 6. The new board member will be announced during a meeting at Salina Elementary School March 14.
