The Salt Lake Metro Narcotics Unit raided five suspected drug houses last week, including one house in which they confiscated more than $7,500 in suspected drug money.

"We're getting busier and busier all the time," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Bill Shelton. The money and a small amount of cocaine and methamphetamines were recovered Friday from a home at 1605 S. Richards Street. A man and a woman were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a police report stated.

Two others detained at the residence were later arrested after officers determined they were parole fugitives.

"It's very common to find unusual amounts of money in these busts," Shelton said, explaining that people supplying and dealing drugs can't use banks because it would draw suspicion.

Friday's bust was just one of five search warrants served last week that were similar in nature, he said. "Our basic mission is to attack the street-level dealers."
