Fire officials are intensifying their search for an arsonist after two cars and a model home were set on fire late Monday evening in the area of 5600 South and 500 East.

"We have had a rash of fires in that same area" for the past few months, said Fire Capt. Keith Hall, noting that Monday night's fires seem to fit the pattern of a number of other car fires in the area recently.Firefighters received a call at 11:20 p.m. from a resident who spotted a car on fire on 5600 South and about 400 East. When an engine responded, firefighters saw a model home at the CrossPointe subdivision nearby and called for two more engines. Firefighters then spotted the third fire, Hall said.

The fire in the house was knocked down in about 10 minutes and a damage estimate was set at $10,000. There was no estimate on the damage to the two cars.

Hall said he had no information about the methods used to start the fires.
