Salt Lake police say a woman protesting the Persian Gulf war Saturday was shot with a BB gun by someone driving by the demonstration.

The 20-year-old Salt Lake woman was protesting the beginning of the ground war of Operation Desert Storm at the Federal Building, 125 S. State, about 11:45 p.m. Saturday when the incident occurred.Witnesses said a passenger in a white Toyota Tercel shot at the woman and hit her in the right shoulder, causing a welt. The BB traveled through the woman's coat and shirt, putting a hole in the coat, according to a police report.

The shooter was wearing a yellow jacket and the vehicle had a pink stripe and pink license plate holder, witnesses said.
