The Orem City Council Tuesday agreed to donate $1,000 for a Veterans Memorial Park planned for an area near Camp Williams.
The park will have a museum honoring veterans from all wars and will have a cemetery available to serve Utah's estimated 160,000 veterans and 60,000 National Guard personnel. The council had earlier rejected the idea of donating money because it did not have enough information about the project. After veterans and the project architect presented plans, the council voted to consider the matter again when all members were present. The proposal for a $1,000 donation arose Tuesday and passed unanimously.
Project representatives have approached several cities for donations. Total construction costs for the memorial are projected at $1.2 million. About $1 million has been raised so far.
