Julia Vernet Kasian Thoreson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died February 20, 1991 at Sandy, Utah.

She was born at Belfield, North Dakota, December 6, 1931 to John and Eva Kordonwy Kasian. She graduated from Belfield High School, attended college at Dickinson and Valley City State Colleges. She was married to Duane Thoreson on Nov. 9, 1952 in Valley City, North Dakota. Julie taught rural school in North and South Dakota. Lived in Arizona for several years before moving to the Salt Lake area in 1978 with her husband.Julie was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council for several years as Financial Secretary and Church Treasurer. Julie especially enjoyed softball and bowling.

Survivors include her husband, Duane; a son, John, Casa Grande, Ariz.; an adopted son, Ken Kosola, Sandy; two sisters, Janet Malkowski, Stoutland, Missouri; and Mrs. Roger (Mary) Hughes, Arvada, Colo.; two brothers, Michael and Allen Kasian, both of Belfield, North Dakota; and two very special grandchildren, David and Brian Thoreson of Casa Grande, Ariz. (They were the joy of her life). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanne, her father, mother, and stepmother.

A memorial service will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 8575 South 700 East, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 1991. Burial will be Monday in Valley City, North Dakota. The family suggests that contributions may be made in her memory to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
