A Taylorsville man has been charged with four counts of raping and sexually abusing three young children he was baby-sitting.
The man, 25, was charged Thursday with three counts of rape of a child, a first-degree felony, and one count of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, according to the complaints.Salt Lake County sheriff's detectives say the man also may be responsible for several other incidents locally and in California.
"There have been other possible incidents and cases locally, and the investigation's continuing," said Capt. C. David Glad of the department's juvenile division. "There's the possibility of some out-of-state incidents that we're also looking into."
The man is charged in three separate incidents involving three victims over the last two years, according to the complaints filed in 3rd Circuit Court.
In one incident, the defendant is accused of raping a 2-year-old girl on Jan. 12 while baby-sitting her and her sister at their Salt Lake County home, the complaint said. He was charged with one count of rape of a child, although the defendant allegedly admitted to a detective he raped both children.
Another complaint charges the man raped a 3-year-old girl several times from 1989 through November 1990.
The complaint, containing two counts of rape of a child, states the defendant admitted to a detective that he had sexual contact with the victim about 24 times.
A third complaint charges the defendant with sexual abuse of a child, alleging he sexually abused a 3-year-old girl in November 1990.
The complaint states he told the detective that he fondled the girl, "but she didn't like it, so he didn't pursue it."
Glad said the arrest culminates a three-week investigation.
