The Fifth International Symposium on Recent Advances in Drug Delivery Systems began Monday at the Marriott Hotel.

Scholars and researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Purdue University, Case Western Reserve University and Johns Hopkins University, among other institutions, were joined by colleagues from universities in the Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, Japan and the United Kingdom.The symposium will run through Thursday.

The keynote speech will be given Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. by Dr. Joseph A. Mollica, president and chief executive officer of The DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Co.

Symposium sponsors include Baxter Healthcare Corp.; CIBA-GEIGY Corp.; Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Co.; Sankyo Co.; Theratech Inc.; 3M Pharmaceuticals; the DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Co.; the Upjohn Co.; and more than 25 other international pharmaceutical and health-care laboratories.
