There must be something about meeting New Mexico for Utah State's women's gymnastics team. Last year in a home meet, the Aggies set their all-time high team total (192.6) against New Mexico, and Sunday afternoon in New Mexico, Utah State reached its team-record road score.
The Aggies downed the Lobos 191.4-184.94.Barb Zahl and Brenda Scholl tied for the all-around title Sunday, each scoring 38.45s for Utah State. Teammate Michele Bugbee, who was not supposed to compete in the all-around because of a wrist injury, finished third in the all-around with 38.3.
Utah State, 8-5, was already ranked sixth nationally and has had two of its highest scores of the season in its last two meets, so it could move higher in the next poll. The Aggies scored 190.8 at home last Wednesday in losing to top-ranked Utah.
