The Defense Department warned unauthorized reporters Monday not to try to cover the war in Kuwait on their own, saying they could come under fire, wander into minefields or be captured.

It said unauthorized reporters will not be given access to any allied military units and this would be given only to about 161 pool reporters assigned to military units and required to share what they see with the rest of the press."Unescorted reporters traveling into a battlefield could be mistaken as a threat to the safety of those troops and be brought under fire," the Pentagon said.
