Rep. Bill Orton, D-Utah, a tax attorney, has landed a spot on a subcommittee overseeing U.S. trade and tax policy relating to small businesses.

Orton was named Thursday to the House Small Business Subcommittee on Exports, Tax Policy and Special Problems.Orton said after he was first elected that his dream committee assignment would be on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax laws. But no freshmen won spots on that prestigious committee.

But Orton said he is using his tax background to good use on his new subcommittee assignment.
