San Francisco Giants owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. has given team president, Carmen Policy, a specific mission - to get the team's finances in hand. Even though the team has been as successful on the field as any in history, plays to full houses at Candlestick Park and has solid television and radio contracts, it has been perhaps the biggest financial loser in the league the last decade. Insiders estimate losses in the vicinity of $25 million to $30 million. Some say Edward DeBartolo Sr. has been after his son to sell the team and concentrate on family business, and that Policy is being sent to prepare the team for a sale. Policy says this is not true.

Policy says the team will try to finalize a new deal with backup quarterback Steve Young within 10 days.
