American Sign & Indicator Corp., a subsidiary of BRAE Corp., said it has bought the rights to a new on-site ski information system developed by BEE, a Salt Lake-based electronics company that was used at Snowbird last winter to reduce waiting at lift lines.

The system is the largest liquid crystal display in the word, according to American Sign, measuring 16 feet wide and 7 feet high. The system calls up lift operators every 20 minutes and the computer asks for the line wait. The operator presses the keys on his telephone to indicate the wait, the computer voice verifies, and the liquid crystal bargraph tells skiers the length of the line.

The system also reports on closed, open or groomed runs with international symbols. A ski trail map is also included.

American Sign said the messages can be read at a distance of 800 feet.
