Leslie H. Gertsch has just received the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award as an outstanding volunteer for the state of Utah, according to the Utah Council of the Blind, which nominated the volunteer.
Gertsch, who is blind, has accomplished many things. She is a past president of the organization. She initiated the transportation and reading programs for the blind. She started special ceramics classes in Salt Lake City and Ogden. She was a director on the UCB Credit Union Board of Directors. She has written grants and overseen fund-raising functions. In the nomination, Gertsch was called the force behind the council.Her nomination will now be forwarded to the National J.C. Penney Golden Rule Awards Committee, which will select a national winner in the fall.
