Dixie High School football, baseball and wrestling standout Tyler Wilkinson was in critical but stable condition today following an auto accident.

The 18-year-old running back from St. George was injured Saturday when his pickup truck overturned just south of Fillmore while he was en route to Salt Lake City. The highway patrol said he apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

He was flown to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he underwent surgery Sunday for a displaced vertebra.

Wilkinson had movement in his arms but not his legs, his parents said Monday.

"Tyler has a very positive attitude. We're praying for a miracle," said his mother, Linda Wilkinson. "We have a lot of faith that it will happen."

Wilkinson gained over 1,000 yards in three years with the Flyers, who went 27-5. He was the 3-A wrestling champion in the 152-pound class in 1990 and hit over .350 as a centerfielder.

Wilkinson signed last week to play football and baseball at Dixie College.
