Earl John "Duke" Howes, 84, of Orem, died February 14, 1991 in Provo, after a short illness.
He was born June 13, 1906, a son of John Henry and Mary Ellen Greenwood Howes in American Fork, Utah. He married Reva Richards, September 28, 1939 in Salt Lake City. She died June 12, 1979. He then married Vivian Johnson Gardner, August 8, 1985. He graduated from American Fork High School. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling and he loved to dance. He also enjoyed gardening. He lived in Carbon County, then moved to Salt Lake. He also lived in Springville for a short time, spending the last two years in Orem. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed going to the temple. He was a home teacher and a ward librarian.Survived by wife, of Orem; two step-daughters, and three step-sons, Susan Pratt, of Aberdine, Idaho; Beverly Rice Webb, Salt Lake; Richard M. Gardner, Larry M. (Bud) Gardner, both of Orem; Robert K. Gardner, Springville. He is also survived by three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Ray Howes, of American Fork. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Howes.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 1991, 10:30 a.m. in the Northridge Stake Center, 1674 North 200 West, Orem. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 So. State St. in Orem, and also from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the stake center. Burial, Wasatch Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
