Former University of Utah football coach Jim Fassel is scheduled to be named the new quarterback coach of the world champion New York Giants on Wednesday, the Deseret News has learned.
Fassel, who compiled a 25-33 record in five seasons at Utah, accepted the job on Monday and a Wednesday afternoon announcement was scheduled in New York. Contacted at his home on Wednesday, Fassel said he also was interviewed by Tampa Bay."We're excited," said Fassel. "One thing I found is that it's difficult to break into the NFL. To go in as a quarterback coach is even more difficult. But it's really exciting to go in as the quarterback coach of the world champions."
Fassel wouldn't discuss the terms of the contract he said he has signed with the club. "I feel fortunate to be joining a club like that."
Fassel was fired by the Utes following the 1989 season. - Brad Rock
