Kerry Sherwood hit two free throws with six seconds left in the second overtime to give Southern Utah a 106-105 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Tuesday night.
DaVor Marcelic led Southern Utah (14-11) with 19 and Peter Johnson had 28. Sherwood finished with 22 points and pulled down 20 rebounds.Milwaukee was led by Von McDade with 43 points, including seven 3-pointers, one of which was from 23 feet as he was being fouled to force the first overtime. Randy Doss added 27 points for the Panthers (14-10).
Milwaukee took an 11-4 lead, but an 18-4 run by the Thunderbirds gave the Thunderbirds a 22-15 advantage with 9:59 left in the half. The teams traded leads and Southern Utah led 40-39 at the half.
Regulation time ended with the score tied at 88 and it was 97-97 at the end of the first overtime.
Southern Utah went up 104-100 with 1:56 to go in the second overtime, but McDade hit a steal-and-stuff basket and a 3-pointer to give the Panthers a one-point advantage until Sherwood's winning shots.
