Assertiveness-training classes for adults and teenagers are being offered through Davis County Mental Health.

The adult class begins Wednesday, Feb. 27, meeting for two hours each Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., in the clinic at 470 E. Medical Dr., Bountiful. The class for teens meets 4-5:30 p.m. each Tuesday for seven weeks beginning March 5 in the Layton office, 2250 N. 1700 West.For adults, instructor Connie Chatlin's course is aimed at helping students acquire more self-respect and control over their lives without denying the rights and feelings of others. Specific skills taught include coping with criticism, refusing and making requests, handling anger and anxiety, and giving and receiving compliments.

The class for teens will help identify the difference between passive, aggressive and assertive behavior. It will deal with handling peer pressure, making and refusing requests, developing self-esteem, expressing positive and negative emotions, and increasing communication skills. Instructor is Rhonda Feller.
