Flames sputtered through a wholesale custom wheel business Monday night causing $4,000 in damage.
Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Scott Collins said the fire started in a reception area at American Racing, 565 W. 3560 South. Firefighters responded to the blaze about 8:45 p.m. and doused the flames before they spread to the warehouse area of the business.Collins said magnesium wheels in the warehouse would have caused severe damage had they ignited.
"When magnesium is on fire and you put water on it, the fire really intensifies," he said.
A wall and magazine rack in the reception area were destroyed in the blaze.
Inspectors were investigating the cause late Monday. No injuries were reported.
