Sen. Darrell Renstrom, D-North Ogden, acquitted last week of charges he sexually fondled a 19-year-old man, said Tuesday he will decide later this week whether to continue his campaign bid for re-election.
"I'm still quite depressed," he said. "My wife has been a lot of help to me."Renstrom was seeking a fourth term in District 19 against Republican challenger Boyd K. Storey, a former Weber County commissioner, when charges were filed against him in the case.
The 57-year-old senator said friends, family and Democratic Party members have encouraged him to continue in the race.
"I'm getting heavy pressure to stay in the race," said Renstrom.
A six-man, two-woman 2nd District jury Friday found Renstrom not guilty of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.
The North Ogden teenager said Renstrom propositioned him and that the senator grabbed his crotch June 22 while the two were riding in Renstrom's car.
