There's still time for teachers to participate in the annual No Books Day event sponsored by the Deseret News.
The Deseret Newspaper in Education department will take classroom orders for newspapers through Feb. 28 for the statewide event March 6.This year's No Books Day features a special educational section focusing on the environment entitled "Land, Air & Water." The section contains information and activities that allow students to use the newspaper as their text on No Books Day and is co-sponsored by Utah State University's College of Natural Resources and College of Engineering.
As the environment has become a major global issue, Americans are realizing the impact these concerns have on their personal lives. More than ever, citizens need to understand our natural resources and make informed decisions about them.
Last year more than 50,000 students participated in No Books Day in schools all across Utah. They were part of a national focus on Newspaper in Education Week encouraging students to apply their textbook lessons to events in the real world.
The educational sections are available with the March 5 Deseret News for a special educational rate of only 12 cents a paper and teachers also receive a NEWSquiz question and activity sheet. Orders require a minimum of 15 papers and are due one week in advance.
