American forces are experiencing spot shortages of some non-essential supplies but are ready to launch a ground offensive, the supply chief for Operation Desert Storm said Tuesday.
"We're totally prepared to do whatever is necessary," Lt. Gen. Gus Pagonis said of the ground offensive some officials hint may be days or hours away. "We're ready to go."Pagonis said supply shortages did not include essential items such as ammunition, food or chemical protective gear.
He did not identify items in short supply but said most could be eliminated by shifting stock from other units or by shipments from vessels arriving daily with new stores.
Pagonis - recently promoted from major general because of his work supplying Operation Desert Shield and now Desert Storm - said his challenge now is to sustain the force, whether or not a ground offensive is launched soon.
